25.5.14

Due to bank holiday we missed rehearsals on Monday. However we recapped The show I felt by having costume run helped due to feeling more in character and felt the piece physically lot  more.
I felt more In character with the Milonga due to feeling girly and sophisticated with the dance. My costume is correct and ready for the show.

Corrections for today;
Choreographic principles ; Tsunami
Time management at the start, making sure we all know the right timeing when to start so that we are not standing still ready for the next part to start, however we need to sit down as a group and work it out, the other correction was that on the ending with the lifts I need to make them more natural, making sure Rob lifts More natural.

Bollywood; body placement on the statue placement making sure my arms are diagonal allowing to dip into the hip to show a clear body lineament for this.

Today was productive and all my costumes are correct.

20.5.14

Today was jazz class, were we technically worked on technique and stamina to help ready for the show. This has started to be a repeat for every lesson but I feel this incredible helps with physicality but also performance like characterisation as well as technique.

We then went through fast car in costume I feel this helped a lot because everyone especially me I felt you feel the music a lot more and characterisation helps the performance lift a lot more.

We then ran latch, latch is now complete and due to thinking alot emotion wise this day I felt it helped me feel the movement alot more therefore every time I perform this dance I think if emotional life time changes that have happened in my life and I feel this helps incredibly performance wise.

Today was a productive day and I feel that the show is coming along nicely.

19.5.15

Today's lesson we started to work on our stamina ready for the show. I feel this helps me physically and mentally performance and memory wise.

We then recapped on the urban making sure that everyone remembered the transitions, we went through the old Skool hip - hop I remembered the choreography but needed to remember on how I get onto the stage. This is all clear to me now ready for the show.

We then rehearsed the fast car section. With my piece of old Skool I need to stop  thinking to much of the choreography as I know it and now get into my character of a 'buisness man' showing emotions and character to represent this.

Rosaria lesson
Self directed our own warm up ready to start rehearsals
Kat was in lesson and we went through the show list, I feel this helps with choreography as well as Remembering when I am performing, so being aware and know the running order in prep for the show.
From today I now need to with my group look at tsunami expecially with the climax and the ending with me and rob, making sure we still ran section and everyone understands the choreography ready to rehearse back again on Wednesday on rehearsals and in choreographic principles on Thursday.
Today I felt I worked hard and my stamina has improved greatly.

Rosaria lesson 14.03.14

Today we got given the running order for the show.

I was very pleased that my group piece 'Tsunami' has been put into the show, therefore we all need to drill each section.

I feel more comfortable with the milonga, not having a partner absent helps me alot more so that I have better muscles memory, I have more positive self -esteem, as I don't rely on my partner to take the lead, but also we are now rehearsing away from the Mirrors, by this it helps incredibly & makes the team work more strongly in relation to each other.

The Bollywood has now the movement complete but I now need to show emotions and make my moves more bigger expecislly with my arm lineaments and make them a lot more fluid , expressing the body and releasing a lot more to show the representation of water and fire.

Today was an overall success and I am happy with the running order, now I just need to show a lot more emotions with each piece , and drill the choreography so it's in time with the musicality. And now get all the costume ready for Monday ready to start dress rehearsals.

13.5.14 Chloe's lesson

Today in Chloe's lesson we uncovered a technique lesson.
We recapped, pirouettes, Chenne turns, kicks and travelling across the room, I felt this helped alot due to having the correct technique and stamina for the jazz pieces. I felt Chloe's lesson was very beneficial and helped ready for rehearsals. I felt that Chloe's class was alot like auditions I had attended therefore I felt comfortable performing the sequences in duos. I feel my performance has incredibly positively increased physically, I just need to be more confident, making sure my Arm lines are strong due to my left Arm leaning to one side expecially when I kick.
All this interpretation helped ready to rehearse latch, as I though I was showing more emotions, feeling the movement and musicality alot more.
Today was a positive lesson and I feel my technical stamina and all purpos of technique has positively improved.

12.5.14

Today I researched all the styles I have been developing throughout the year of studying at City College.
When writing about each style has made me realise how much I have progressed over the year, physically and emotionally.

We then rehearsed the Milonga, drilling this helps my visual memory to remember and not having my partner helped so that I did not rely on them and to show I physically know the piece.
Rosaria then recorded us performing the piece, watching the reflection made me realise I need to use my upper body alot more due to it being more stiff and aff more character to the piece, apart from that it is physically remembering the piece.
We then recapped the Bollywood after watching the reflection there was a section after the chorus I needed to go through due to not knowing the count when we did this I was clear about all the choreography and felt more positive when we recapped.
Today was a progression day and I am feeling more excited for the show.

12.5.14 urban

Today we recapped on the technical stamina. This helps me physically due to helping me focus on technique ready for university. Last week I got rewarded for the best stamina therefore I need to keep this up at all times.

We then recalled the urban piece developing transitions and finishing choreography. Firstly we recapped the lyrical piece getting all the gestures on time and correct with the musicality.
We then went through the house, performing in small groups and getting the house section correct due to only a few people performing this.
I felt positive with this section therefore I went to the front, I just needed to remember for this section the different level of dynamics aswell as always being on the tip of your toes with bent legs.

I felt positive and happy with my transitions were I am placed and feel secure as I know the choreography and just need to drill it ready for the show.
I felt pleased that I remembered the oldskool  hip - hop section and had productive rehearsals while Kat positioned the locking, this then helped so that we could drill up until the end of old school hip hop therefore today was a productive lesson and felt pleased with the outcome.

Every dance style covered over the year.

Here is different styles that we have covered over the past year, internationally and urban styles have widened my range and made me a better dance than I would of thought a year ago due to never thinking about learning these styles before.

International styles ;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tot0R053cM
Here is a video of Samba Reggae from researching this style, Samba Reggae is very popular In Brazil, from this style it is all about the hips and bottom, the style is allocated with a range of individuals that form in a small community to perform this. This style can be part of performance or part of a warm - up. However some individuals will just perform this in their country as a religion, style of dance to represent who they are.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN0o_ZgdCL0
Milonga is a style of dance that is very sophisticated and sexy, were you would perform this at a party. Normally Milongo lessons would be needed before this and then this can develop as a hobbie for can progress to competitions. Footwork is very important as well as for the girls using the hips and body linements.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6EdpR8Bl1Y
I loved Maculele it is a style to really get you in a positive mood and need alot of energy for this, the style is more like a Circus based theme, due to the amount of colours, tricks and energy that needs to be used for this. Stamina is very important for this piece. The style is based in Brazil, and this would be in connection with slavery, when all the slaves would be together for the day and celebrate freedom, they would not class this as a dance style due to this dance originating their countrie.

Bollywood; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvHKmBZ2T2I
I already knew a range of Banghra , however throughout this year I have learnt alot more, through body placement and routines for this style. I love bollywood and have understood the concept of Bollywood either being fast with Bhangra or can be performed slow and suttle. You need a strong relationship with other individuals with this piece and the dynamics can be either sharp or suttle depending on the theme for the Bollywood dance. Costume is crutial for Bollwood, very bright making sure you stand out, full out, they normally perform bare foot.

Flamenco;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuJbZ8B46oQ
Flamenco is very fast and sexy, Flamenco is more feminine and normally performed on their own as individual just in a relationship with the music, the dynamics are very fast and sharp. Showing sexyness and passion presenting fire, the colours are mainly red for the flooring or as a costume normally a tight long, jazzled dress, the sharpness is in the feet and hands showing sharp arm placements.

Jazz dance can either be Lyrical or musicality due to having different emotions with Jazz. There is a range of techniques that you need to consider with Jazz dance like arm placements, holding your core and co- ordination. Placement is very important and always needs to be considered when dancing. I feel throughout the year I have progressed through jazz dramatically  Posture is important throughout this, expecially when lifting, walking and physical movement.

Ballet ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um6y_IQGU8s
From October 2013 I have been learning Ballet, I feel from the Technique I have positively improved through jazz and Ballet due to the amount of technique you need to engage. Ballet needs alot of focus due to engageing every muscle in your body.

Contemporary; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzbJHMJ2uEg
Contemporary is engaging dance through emotions, you can also engage Lyrical. Contemporary is about expressing the body, engaging technique but also allowing the body to unfold and release, this will help through the movement/ choreography, throughout the year I have learnt alot of movement and historical context about Contemporary for the following years.

Street dance styles, this video includes, Krumping which is a style that has alot of force and power showing expressions of angre throughout the dance. Popping which is about the isolation of the body and engaging the muscles to allow the pop, also vogue which is a feminine dance however throughout the on going years, lads are experiencing and interpreting this style alot more, this also links into Wacking which is very sexy, girly and interprets connections with the arms and wrists making them very powerful and sharp hitting the beat. Isolations, these are engaging the neck and head to isolate throughout co-ordinations. Then there is Locking which is full of funk and having a good time, styleising the routine. Then there is Old skool hip - hop this is like Locking but with alot more funk and engaging all the body alot more, rather than just the wrists and legs with Locking, I struggle with locking due to the co-ordination.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzZgYa-IHW0
House my favourite dance style, very hard but you can be free and have alot of fun with this, by engaging technique of being on the balls of your feet, therefore you can make up alot of moves with this style.
This style was firsty discovered in clubs and then widened to become a style were this gets participated in competitions and battles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKLjJG_Yiqo
Breaking all floor work, being on the grounds of your feet, this has been a new style I have learnt this year and can progress so much more, I have found with breaking is that you need to be able to hold your body weight in the air to progress to alot more harder/ bigger tricks.

Commerical dance has grown with me throughout the year, I have engaged so much more, and enjoy learning commerical dance the dance can be very fast engaging sexyness, while being in a relation to the audience, commercial dance can be seen on Television, promotions as well as modelling, commerical is very this century and every enjoys this dance. The dynamics are very fast, engaging technique and sexyness and power throughout the whole piece.
