5/12

P Today we went through the technical stamina, reflecting on all the technique we had discussed during previous lesson!
We then ran through the running order of the show, Kat went through the tinting of the first section if breaking getting the timing correct! Once Kat explained we all got the timing correct straight away.

When mine and Elliot's duo got performed Kat explained how much it has cleaned up and become stronger performance wise, however we need to clean the locking section up. I have taken this into consideration.
We then got announced that mine & Elliot's duo has been chosen personally by the 2nd years acting to pArticipate in the cabaret I am so happy and over the moon yet the piece isn't on point, therefore immediately we need to drill, yet I feel during performance rehearsals next week this will increase alot ready for the Christmas show and cabaret.

3-12

Today we recalled out technique during the warm up making sure I interpreted my core and posture. This really helped my core and I feel an improvement on my abs and core from the exercises, aswell as my flexibility! However I need to push myself fully to get to a high standard of flexibility.
Once warm up had finished, we went through the technical stamina, therefore I needed to make sure this was the strongest I had been, interpreting everything I had been taught with my own unique style / performance.

We then went into pairs and the exercise was each person would perform the technical stamina & pair 1 needed to put off there partner.  Mine was kornelia, this was very hard due to her focus being on 100% at all times. When It was my time, I lost focus and therefore forgot the movement after witnessing kornelia i knew it was not impossible & therefore need to not loose focus. Especially with the show Appearing very shortly.

We recalled urban due to everyone being full of energy, this ram smoothly and I am pleased with how much more concentrated and how much it has developed during the last few weeks.

We then recalled jazz, this was not very good due to the amount of counts we missed and new placements, however once we ran through it slowly and recapped the timing, this helped and it finally got there, I need to keep my focus and performance skills for this piece as well as getting into characterisation due to being a robot !
Strengths; knowing the dance piece, and rehearsing in my own time ready for the show.
Weakness: get into characterisation and become robot based.

Chloe's workshop

Chloe had a assessment today therefore she took our class.
Chloe ran over technique due to the show being so close. I felt this helped alot due to this is the background I will be studying when I go to university. However I liked the different atmosphere aswell as how she taught due to being from a different background. As Chloe's main style is contempary.
I felt I benefited from Chloe's class today and get taught simple technique and movement to perform solo . Chloe picked up on a correction I need to work on, this was when I kick my leg I end up going on my toes, yet my foot should be flat on the ground.

I now know my key elements that I am strong on and what needs to be improved. I aim to improve this before June and improve on all my JAZZ AND CONTEMPORY ready for uni aswell as for every performance I shall be interpreting.

BollyWood

Bollywood is based in India, but throughout the centry it has spreaded across the World.
The name 'Bollywood' originated from Bombay & Hollywood. Bollywood expresses through a range of mixed styles.
BollyWood first was discovered when performing in Indian films, callled 'Filmi'. These were mainly Hindee films.

There was a well known story to Bollywood, expecially in the film, this was originated like the structure of Romeo & Juilliet. A well known Hindu film called Liala Maju, was a well known Hindu Filmi that was created in the 1976. This was a legendary story based on 2 individuals called Layla and Majnun. the story was an asian version of Romeo and Juilliet, but showed much more proffesion and creativity due to the range that they had of styles, characters and story line.

Laila Majnu 1976.jpg  This is the front cover of the Filmi.
You can tell the expressions already from just the front cover, the expressions on the faces, shows alot of emotions aswell as the creativity of gestures from both of them.

Khatak is a style of Bollywood that is obtained by the feet. individuals suggested this was developed from Flamenko, due to the dynamics being the same structure. In this style of dance there is a range of props that are jewellery; bracelets and bangles/ bells on the feet. This style was originated from the North.

ODISSI, came from the South, the style of this was statue based, from the temples/ mosque. the body would be shaped in a statue technique .

Mahabaratchya is a style that emphasis alot of western styles like' Jazz, this is therefore how other nationalitys have a positive outcome / advantage from this due to their techique of styles having a much wider range. Statistics show that there are more english, that will dance in the format of Bollywood than there are asain performers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDyTkEXOLl4 Desi girls - there are a range of different girls called this, however my friend whom is full english is a Desi girl, she has her own Desi girl crew and all of them are english, no body is asian, thios represents the advertisement of how easy it is to interpret nd perform a dance that is not your nationality background, but also the acceptence of Asian / hindu's letting and welcoming performers into their background.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBtIaGBeDp0 as you can see in this video, there are different styles of dance interpreted into this performance, like belly dancing, all in the belly and hips moving, this is a big gesture throughout Bollywood, the hips and posture of body.

Here you have the Arm gestures, combined with the fingers, when seeing this you altermately know that this represents Bollywood dancing.

Today Rosario taught us different postures, that respresent Bollywood, I found getting into the postures hard to get into due to so many things you need to think about, like;
  • Posture
  • bent knees
  • fingers
  • arm placement
  • hips
  • facial expressions

These statues are based from figures / statues in the temples. Therefore are developed throughout the dance piece in different styles.

Personal Opinion:

I love Bollywood, I previously performed and learnt this in my old college, during my time here I related to alot of asain people and become good friends with alott, I went to alot of Asian weddings were I would see these dances being perfomed as a normal dance to them, getting on the dance floor beforming bollywood but it would be there normal dance, see I would be perfoming Hip-Hop. I find that with Bollywood there is so much characterisation and the atmosphere is fenominal. Everyone is happy and in a celebrating mood with bursting energy.

Strengths :
  • learnt the basics of Bollywood before so knew alot of the techniques already.
  • Listen to Punjabi music due to the atmosphere it gives out, speak simple words in punjabi
  • Kept up with the dynamics thjat rosario taught and therefore have good stamina, but can still be imporved
  • The whole class interpreted and wanted to learn as well as myself
  • Got the technique of how to perform each finger placement
weaknesses:
  • I need to work on the different postures there are due to this it was interupting with my other dance performance, it is all in the hips but making sure that every time I bend my knees and keep them in this postion at all times throughout the sequence dance.
  •  Balance, I need to work on my balance, as you can see from the picture above, there is alot of motifs that interpret just standing on one leg, therefore I need to make sure that both of my legs have the same level of balance to support me, due to the dance working on both the left and right.
Overall I love Bollywood and I am glad I am learning more technique for this, and can not wait to learn more the following week.

Opinion on class

I find Rosario's class very different to Kats, I personally feel Kat is more into the street dance techniques and movement , yet Rosario is into the international and I personally love this . Due to this it is widening my knowledge positively and effectively. I'm learning alot of different dance styles like ;
Bokawa
When I learnt this I found it very interesting and alot of the movement are repetitive , yet the context is spelling out letters from the Alphabet. This is a simple dance yet can be performed in different matters. I personally think that this dance would be a great exercise for warming up due to the dynamics being fast and flowing throughout the piece!

Different godesses

Today I learnt a dance which each move represented a goddess.

Yemanja is the goddess of the sea, the dynamics for this is very smooth and gentle with the arms, waving / moving like the sea, performing up and down gently to the music

Iansa - is goddess of 'Oya'

Xango - is the goddess of thunder therefore the dynamics are heavy and big making sure your performance is using up the whole space.

Osayn - is the goddess of herbalist , the dynamics were gentle, looking like I was planting seeds in the ground, alot of the dynamics interpreted my hands for this performance.

I found this very interesting and had never heard of this before , so in the first week my range and vocabulary was expanding positively already.

Jam sessions freestyle

In the first week I was delighted to become part of this course. There was so many individuals with different techniques and styles this made me want to learn alot more already. My determination expanded and Ioved it already. I knew I had made the right choice to move down here and study dance independently on my own.

During the first week I wanted to be able to learn how to freeze , individuals could see my determination and therefore a performer helped me, explaining the technique , I was told and shown how to do this the second day of college by Thursday had come I was able to perform this and I was so thrilled, by this outcome it made me want to learn even more freezes and I have already started to.
Here is a picture of myself performing the freeze, my facial expressions show how happy I am to have learnt this.
